Ability to record to a specified folder. Coupled with auto-recording and you've got a great DVR replacement for sure.

Cowboy77 This sounds good, it'd also be nice to manage these folders inside PlayLater

Brandon Bullock I agree, this would be an awesome feature, glad to see it's planned!
-
Kevin Adams What would be even better would be to record to a folder by show name, so that all of our recordings for a specific show will end up in the same folder.

Cowboy77 @Kevin Not for me...I like to lump different shows all into one folder. I think I'd prefer having the last used folder locations as options and maybe some auto-generated suggestions like what you said and to save to a default folder as a good set-up

aaron camp @Kevin, agreed. My boxee Box does not like having all recording in a single folder.

Cowboy77 @aaron Doesn't like? Could you explain in a little more detail? I'm curious

ann and chris paynter you guys do realize that you can make the folders yourself and playon/later will sort through them for you, right? i agree that not having to go into the directory and make the folders myself would be nice, but i LOVE that i can sort the programs into nested folders and end up with something really easy to surf!!!

Cowboy77 I realize that, but there are definite benefits to having it shown in PlayLater. I'm also not sure what you mean by PlayLater sorting them...you mean in conjunction with PlayOn when you're streaming through a device?

ann and chris paynter just that when you click through the menu you can do multiple layers, and you can see your directory structure when using something like a roku. it would be nice if you could see your structure (and add and delete from it) in the "my recordings" page. i am having issues with cleanly recording one episode, so, i have it in about 4 or 5 folders. when i go to the my recordings page, it is all flat, so it is really hard to tell them apart.
my comment was addressed to those who didn't even know you could go into the directory and make your own structure. i didn't know if it would work at first, but was so glad when it did. but i agree, it would be of a huge benefit for it to be supported within the program.

Eric I would love it if the PlayLater recordings weren't displayed in just a flat directory. It seems that adding a local directory structure that mirrors the hierarchy of the channel the content was downloaded from would be simple to implement.
For example, If the content was downloaded from TV.com have a TV.com folder under the PlayLater download folder, then a folder with the Show's Name, and then have the content in there. I realize I can do this manually today, and create subfolders and move the mp4 files, but 1) that's manual and 2) I don't want to lose the metadata about the show (episode description, rating, air date, etc) -- you don't realize how much you appreciate having the episode description until it's gone.

Mark Monnin Come on! There's no way this is that hard! You can't afford one more programmer to work on your "Planned" features which would really REALLY make this software awesome? For this one you could just have the user add folders and decide which folder each recording goes into like they do for PlayMark.

Jeremy Mulenex Any update from PlayOn regarding this Feature?

Gregory Beitler I wanted this feature with a few others, so I wrote a collection of powershell scripts to do them. If you want to check them out, they're here:
https://bitbucket.org/ParadoxGBB/mediapolling-release
By default, new episodes are in a flat folder, but after the number of episodes of a show increases to a configurable number (by default 3) they're collected in a subfolder by show and eventually by season.

Ryan Skarra-Gallagher Update PlayOn, 5 years... really?
