Playlater auto-record whatever is watched through Playon

I would like a feature added to Playlater that auto-records anything I watch through the Playon server.  If I get interrupted, Playlater continues on recording the stream until finished.  This way, if I get interrupted, or want to watch again, I do not have to restream anything.

The other thing this enables is it allows you to use Playon to select what you wish to record - just start playback and then stop.

Finally, this is how a PVR works - everything you watch is being recorded.

Thanks.

Sounds interesting, but why not just pause the stream for some of these problems? :P

The "problems" are most commonly kids - it may be several days until I can get back to it ...

A slight tweak to this idea: (Note: My example uses the PS3 as a DLNA client.)

Perhaps you modify how the menus work now. When you open PlayOn, you're greeted by a list of available channels/plugins. When you open a channel, you're provided with a list of categories.

What if, as a first step, before being given the category list, you're first provided with two choices:" with PlayLater Record" and "without PlayLater Record" - this could even be disabled in PlayOn Settings by default, and only offered if PlayLater Premium is also present on the system. Then you simply check a box in settings and restart the server service to gain access to the feature.

The rest of PlayOn remains unchanged. If the user selects "with PlayLater Record" then any content the user decides to view is saved in PlayLater Recordings during or after playback (whichever is technologically more feasible). And if you select "without PlayLater Record", then PlayOn works like it presently does.

    Thoughts?

That may not solve the "kids" issue, but barring some kind of password input, which I don't think is possible via DLNA, you're still going to have to enable/disable a feature and restart PlayOn every time. No?

I think that would be a great idea, especially if it would also work from the mobile apps, since connectivity can fade in & out, you can get interrupted, etc.,

    PlayOn Support (Chris)

PlayOn and PlayLater are completely separate products. Something like this would require reworking significant pieces of PlayOn and PlayLater. It's unlikely we will be able to consider something like this for quite some time.
