Playon as a Synology Package Application

A Synology NAS is a good media hardware solution for the home, good storage, backup utilities, power efficient and relatively low cost compared to something like a windows home server. it would be a good option for NAS owners if Playon could be made available as a Package that could be run on the NAS directly instead of having to have a PC or server running too.

Would you consider porting Playon to run as a Synology NAS package?

Synology provide an SDK for this and there are other third parts packages available, so it looks like they have the framework to support this.

Unfortunately, this will not be possible. PlayOn can only be run on Windows. Also, the NAS's hardware is not capable of running PlayOn.

Can this feature looked into again? The Synology hardware can run plex with transcoding, so I don't see how it would not run PlayOn, I currently have mine running plex as well as some other services like web sites and others. If this is possible it would simplify so much.

Another vote for NAS support. I've replaced my pc with a NAS and Playon is the only app that I cannot use anymore. Plex, iTunes, and DLNA works very well.

    Dear PlayOn Support,

Please revisit offering PlayOn on the Synology NAS.  Whomever determined that the hardware isn't capable of running PlayOn needs to go back for some remedial programming training.  It's more than powerful enough for this app unless your code isn't efficient. Let's get with the program here. I have a variety of computers and devices on my home network; Linux boxes, macs, iOS devices, Tivos, and a Synology NAS is the backbone that works with all of them. The one thing I will never have is a Windoze PC.  If the Synology NAS can run Plex, then it should easily handle PlayOn.  Let's get this done!

Tony, the problem isnt about the power, its about the fact that playon uses ie, i would bet. Unless everyone here is only talking about the client

I'm thinking about getting the DS1817+ and wonder if anyone has tried VirtualBox with Playon as a service under a Windows ThinPC?  I most likely won't get this NAS for awhile unless I am certain that it would be capable of this and a few other minimum requirements.

I'd like to see if anyone who has a Synology has tried installing Windows on it yet.

Someone mentioned Plex here, I use Playon to record and then move my files to my Plex server, has anyone talked to Plex?  Perhaps a joint venture, I'm sure the Plex programmers would love to work with Playon Programmers in a joint venture...  Thank about it PlayOn....
