Manually enter PlayOn server IP into Roku

Pretty straight forward. Allow users to manually enter the IP of where the PlayOn Media Server is located instead of depending on the 'discovery' feature. The Plex App for Roku has this option.

For those of us looking at these feature requests and...don't have a Roku, do you mind telling us what benefit this will add to using PlayOn with the Roku? They might be more likely to give it a thumbs up. Thanks

This is probably for only my situation where this is needed sadly but I'll explain. I have two routers 192.168.1.1 = Regular Canadian Internet, DHCP IPs 100-149 192.168.1.2 = US VPN router (for 'real' Netflix, Hulu and hopefully PlayOn), DHCP IPs 151-200 The PlayOn server is on my HTPC which uses the Canadian router, but dials into the VPN, my Rokus are on my VPN router hard wired. I have a feeling that they can't see each other due to the DHCP range. However, if I'm able to enter the IP manually, I should be able to find the PlayOn Media Server. I can do this w/ the Plex Server w/ no issues.

I think you've lost a few of people with that (and me a bit =P) including the Virtual Private Network bit. However, there is a way I've heard of and I don't know if it'll help, but hitting control and clicking start for the server starts up a user mode for PlayOn. You could try that and see what happens.

I'll try that out tomorrow. Yeah my set up is weird, but sadly necessary for my situation in order to get US content. Thanks for your comments, they're greatly appreciated.

Ahhh, US content, say no more =P

You're welcome, hope it works out for you :)

    PlayOn Support (Chris)

We have no plans to enable an option like this right now. VPNs will cause all kinds of problems for devices that want to connect to PlayOn, not just Roku players. For that reason, we are unable to support VPNs. You have to play with different configurations to find one that works for your unique needs.

I wish they would reconsider letting you manually enter an IP address the way Plex allows you to. It would make it possible to use a (Roku) or fire tv if you are away from home. I don't understand the problem doing this.

Sad that they won't consider this. I take my roku with me when I travel and would love to be able to connect to my playon server at home.

They just don't understand that your phone may not be the only thing you want use out of the house.

Plex has this part down pat. If they can get a plugin channel for PlayOn that might work as well.
