When I search for the PlayOn Mobile app, the only thing that appears is PlayOn Cloud app. There is no PlayOn mobile app.
How do I use PlayOn on an ipad or android device to cast from my desktop to my TV if don't want to use cloud?

Evidently Playon is forcing their desktop customers to pay for their cloud by removing ability for the desktop version to play on Android or IOS despite what their website states.
Playon appears to be doing bait and switch with false advertising.

This is not good, why would you stop supporting these apps? I paid for the playon server knowing that the app was available and because I only get satellite for my ISP I will not use cloud service because of limited data. Please continue to support this app.
I have been reading through various threads about the merits of PlayOn - the desktop app, which MANY of us invested in, versus the newer "cloud" model ...
I am APALLED at Bill, from PlayOn support's reply here. I was all ready to defend PlayOn to the multitude of complaints -- and then I saw this reply. This "explanation" for the Android and iOs PlayOn Mobile app being discontinued.
Some executive deserves to be taken out and beaten for selling this strategy. I invested a reasonable sum for a lifetime PlayOn Desktop based upon the "good faith" expectation that the provided service would continue to function as promised.
I ALREADY HAVE a cloud service -- four terabytes worth. I have a large disk-farm locally. I do not NEED another !@!!!#!ing cloud proprietary cloud... just to get access to my OWN content that I have hosted with a service that was sold as a functional solution and I paid for already.
"Would you be interested in some ... Cloud recordings credits...?" -- WTF!!!???? How STUPID do you think we are? We want what was sold to us -- the whole package. To stop supporting that app is EXACTLY what Pellmd said - a BAIT AND SWITCH with FALSE ADVERTISING.
You are going to alienate the ONLY customers who have an investment to try to be loyal to you... are you SERIOUSLY going to SH** on us with this absurd "no longer supported" strategy? I guarantee you that the exec who thought of that will be history -- either along with PlayOn ... or when he bails to go infest some other company with his anti-customer strategic planning in the name of REVENUE. It is NOT our fault - the ones who paid for lifetime desktop because we KNEW that we could handle the storage and (perhaps cloud) issues ourselves - that you've spent the millions we paid to you already. If PlayOn continues in this vein - then DeskTop is going to go the way of the dinosaurs -- and we will NEVER buy in to your Cloud bullsh**...
It's not what we wanted THEN and it's not what we want or need NOW. I don't know why I felt like defending PlayOn to it's many detractors. PlayOn pulling the mobile app is PlayOn dumping excrement on their most invested customers.
Offer me a lifetime Cloud solution for free you bastages....
Absolutely stunning.
I am also a lifetime subscriber who purchased PlayOn for this exact feature.
I have been scammed.
It's amazing that Playon is still advertising the Mobile apps on their website and yet they are not available anymore.

If you have PlayOn Desktop, be sure to download the PlayOn Mobile app. PlayOn Desktop customers can start or queue a recording, cast a video to their Xbox, Roku, or Chromecast or even watch right on their phone. Once you've paired your phone with your PlayOn PC, you can control PlayOn from anywhere in the world you have a signal, WiFi, 3G, or 4G.
PlayOn Mobile is available for Android, iOS, Blackberry, and Windows mobile and tablet devices.
If you're looking for PlayOn Cloud, the streaming DVR app for mobile devices, visit our PlayOn Cloud page."
Sure seems like false advertising.
As an alternative, a Playon server + Plex (free software) for casting might work.
I haven't toyed with it to know for sure, but it wouldn't be as integrated and easy to setup and use as the original Playon Mobile apps.
It would be of great service if Playon could provide the last app file to installation regardless if they are int the Apple or Google stores.

I download the app today through another site and let me launch it and get to my server
@ Geoff - Thanks for the link, now I need one for IOS :)
I uploaded my backup of "PlayOn 1.5.ipa" mobile app for IOS at
https://www21.zippyshare.com/v/1UUGpNp4/file.html
However, I've never tried installing an ipa file so you have to do the research for the instructions.
It's also my first time using the zippyshare site.
The MD5 hash for the upload is "798F6257AC8D4DB945F74594578C580E"
Hope this helps
well..., not knowing you firstname lastname I dont think I will take the risk to go to your zippyshare. but thanks for the offer.
I understand. Anyone downloading the file should definitely run it through a virus checker, even the apk file from the apkpure website.
true, let me try this and will let you know. - thanks
Thanks. If it works, can you please point us to the installation instructions.
I've bee searching the internet for instructions and found:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26720764/install-ipa-with-itunes-12
Some background on this Playon Mobile .ipa:
Older versions of iTunes managed my ipad's applications. Newer versions after version 12.7 no longer manage applications, but did not delete the Itunes Applications folder. I discovered that the Playon app was still there. I think it's the same app for both an iPad or iPhone.
By the way, the apkpure app (link above) worked on my Android phone.
Ideally, Playon would post these files on their website for download.
I don't know much about the zippyshare site as far as how long files are kept there.
Hope it works for you.
Hi, I'm pretty sure the file (although generous of you to share) is not usable for anyone but you. I was able to try to add it to my device on a PC using itunes 13.1 by following these instructions here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46194400/install-apps-on-device-without-itunes/46520816#46520816?newreg=005b214978374b44b74ac98669179964 (see answer under "You can still install ad-hoc apps using iTunes 12.7z').
However, when I dropped the IPA file, I got an error asking me to authorize the account. I think it's tied to your apple account.
Good to know.
I'll leave the file out on zippy in case anyone gets around the security.
Thanks for trying and reporting back.
I researched and saw this:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5292990
which lists some possible remedies.
It may be that it's your account login that Apple is requesting for the Apple store.
Just a suggestion.
At https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/86806
I found this which may be helpful:
"
I found a solution for Windows users.
I have been searching about the same problem for a few days. iTunes make obligation to update itself to iTunes newer version for ios11 phones and iTunes 12.7 versions doesn't have apps section so i couldn't download anymore my ad hoc app ipa file and provision files to iPhone.
I just found out that there is an iTunes version Apple released which won’t be prompted to download new versions of iTunes and you can use this version to download your app. You can download it from this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208079
Apple say if you have a newer version of iTunes you can just download this one over it but I couldn't do it like this. First, I removed iTunes from my computer, then I removed the iTunes folder from my musics folder (you probably don't need to do that) and I downloaded iTunes for 64 bit PC from the link I wrote above. And with this iTunes i can use Apps section again and it doesn't force me to update it. So it is like the good old times again"
The Apple site for this https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208079 states:
"
Learn how to deploy apps with iTunes.
Apple offers Volume Purchase Programs and Apple Configurator on Mac to help enterprise environments manage and mass-deploy apps on iOS devices. But certain business partners might still need to use iTunes to install apps.
If you've already installed a newer version of iTunes, you can download this version of iTunes1 for your Mac2, PC (32-bit), or PC (64-bit) and run the installer. After installation is complete, you can continue to deploy apps with iTunes.
You won’t be prompted to download new versions of iTunes after you install this version. Manually update to the latest version of iTunes when you finish managing your devices to ensure you have the most up-to-date software.
1. Apple provides technical support only for the latest version of iTunes.
2. This version of iTunes is not compatible with macOS Mojave.
