Please add a client delete button!

I am really enjoying using Playon but would really appreciate it if they added a "Delete" button to the client. I use Roku and Android Clients and after watching a program I have to remember which shows I watched and make sure and delete them on the server.

Thanks!

Charlie

PlayOn is rather minimal as a media server. I recommend using the Plex or Emby media servers for watching videos, including those recorded via PlayOn.

    David,

I have Plex already installed and tried accessing my PlayOn content with Plex. The interface may be "prettier" with Plex but I lose functionality (there is no "Auto Skip" for commercials with Plex) but Plex doesn't provide a "Delete Button" either.

Yea, it would be nice if Plex automatically added auto skip. The solution I use is to cut the commercials out with MCEBuddy. Since PlayOn marks each commercial, the cuts are exact. Then you can play back in Plex.

Plex does have delete too, but you have to enable it and it's only for the main Plex user.

@cfastner  To add to what Mike said, Plex has 30-second skip-forward which, for me, is an adequate alternative to auto-skip when the "video preview thumbnails" option is enabled. I value finding the video I want to watch faster and having the fast-forward thumbnails over the AdSkipper.

@Mike Barylski  Are you using the (old) free version or the (newer) donator version of MCEBuddy? How do you set it to use the chapter markers PlayOn adds instead of using one of the two commercial scanners?  (Perhaps that's fairly obvious with the donator version?)

I'm using the donator version, although I'm not on the latest version (I'm on version 2.4.5). The setting for using the ad marks is in the Expert Settings within a specific Conversion Task. I can't remember when the ad marks were added, but it's possible it's in the free version by now. The hardest part when I first set it up was tweaking the settings to prevent any audio sync issues or early cutting. It's been practically flawless ever since. I always do a back up though, because sometimes the recorded file has messed up ad marks. PlayOn fixes that pretty quick though. Or, I just use Yahoo (the old Hulu) to get the shows since the Yahoo channel seems more reliable than the network channels.

@Mike Barylski  The free version of MCEBuddy is from June 2013 (v2.3.13). It's lacking the many features that have been added since then. Maybe it's worth making a donation if I can use it on both videos from PlayOn and from my OTA tuner (Tablo) to save on disk space (perhaps an average of 20%) and time spent fast-forwarding through commercial breaks. Audio sync issues are indeed a pain. I ran into them with my limited testing of the free version already. What did you end up tweaking to resolve the those issues?

I'm pretty sure it was the 2 settings below in the profiles.conf file. Although, looking through the current configuration file, it appears the settings below are standard for all the profiles. There's a good chance the issues I encountered early on don't exist anymore. If you're going to try it, probably best just to leave the settings as the default and see what happens. Might not be an issue at all anymore.

    ffmpeg-video=-ss 3

    ffmpeg-audiodelay=skip

As for Tablo (or any broadcast tv recording), I don't believe the reliability is as exact as it is with PlayOn's ad marks. For broadcast tv, I believe MCEBuddy uses Comskip (although other tools can be used), and it requires a lot of tweaking. I tried it a bit for shows I transferred from TiVo, but gave up because it wasn't as precise. I've opted to use PlayOn and MCEBuddy for sitcoms where the quality of the video/sound isn't as important to me, but for 1-hour shows like Blacklist and Timeless, I prefer to just transfer the full recording with commercials from TiVo and use the 30-second skip through Plex.

@Mike Barylski  Thanks for sharing your experiences. Since PlayOn only supports AdSkipper for some of its channels, I expect it uses a different method for detecting commercial breaks than those used by the tools for detecting them in TV recordings from OTA (or a CableCard equipped device). Have you tried any of the ComSkip initialization (settings) files found here? Yes, MCEBuddy uses Comskip by default and supports ShowAnalyzer as well. Like MCEBuddy, Comskip seems to also have a donator version.

Hmmm, haven't checked those out, but I'll definitely give them a look. Thanks for the tip!

"DELETE" button has been requested since at least Play Later days back in 2012.
It appears that this function which would allow PlayOn to perform like the DVR recordings we are used to is never going to happen as it seems to have no priority other than IGNORE and it will go away.
It is really nice to have the DELETE function for our OTA channels with our TABLO recording that we also stream the app through our ROKU.
The ability to delete after viewing (without the requirement to get up, go to your PC, find the file, then delete) would make PlayOn so much like a normal dvr.  If they can't do it for some reason, it would be nice for them just to say so and then we could all move on.
But after 5 plus years of just IGNORE, I am at the least annoyed, for whatever that is worth.

Adding my feedback request as well:

Ability to delete viewed shows from the app. It would reduce the need to keep accessing the server daily to clean up viewed shows.

Please add the delete button to the iOS app.

The Roku client has ability to record a program so we know that the client can send commands to the PlayOn client on the PC.  That being the case I see no technical reason that a DELETE button could not be added to the Roku client.
