MediaMallServer.exe constantly disappears

I don’t understand how or why, but MediaMallServer.exe constantly disappears. I am having to reinstall Play On constantly. I checked my MacAfee software and it is not quarantined. I even have it set to bypass this executable during scans. I just don’t understand what is happening. This is the only software I am having issues with on my computer, and I’m really tired of not having Playon working. It’s broken more times than not!

Does anyone else experience this or know why this happens?

My application doesn't disappear but my session "times out" and I have to download a new version or "log-in". This software is the only problem child.

I don't have any issues wit the executable disappearing. Is it that the file is actually gone, or are you referring to the service not starting?

I have issues with the executable disappearing - the file is actually gone from the folder. I've taken to creating a backup of the entire MediaMall folder so that I can quickly put the file back when needed.

I've noticed that this happens when there's a new release of the software - I think the automatic update isn't working properly. I've turned off automatic updates for now, and will see what happens.I can always manually update the software, and at a time of my choosing (as in, *not* when I'm jonesing to watch a movie but instead have to take the time to download the latest update over my slow as molasses satellite internet. LOL ).

(Not sure why, but my response doesn't appear to be formatted properly. Line breaks are appearing in the middle of words. I don't know how to fix this, and I apologize... I'm hopeful it's just me and everyone else can read this just fine.)

That's weird, but I've never used automatic updates. I've always downloaded and installed new versions. About the only thing close to what you are experiencing is installations of new versions removes the icon from the Start Menu. It an Plex are the only apps that do that.

Yeah, if it only removed the icon, I wouldn't mind so much. :-) As it is, the only thing that appears to go missing is the server executable. Very strange, no?

I've been using the software trouble-free for months, then suddenly this starts happening in the last month or so. Last night was the 3rd time that it happened, and even though I restored the executable file from my backup, I still went out and found that there was indeed another release of the software.

Will just have to see what happens.

    It is strange.

What I find strange is PlayOn is ALWAYS opening different ingoing/outgoing ports on my PC which my firewall does not like, so PlayOn is blocked on a daily basis. I am not talking one or two connections, it's hundreds of connections four or five seconds apart, even when PlayOn isn't open. I know because I check my firewall logs daily. Most people probably don't know it is happening. I now shut down the service when I am not using it. I have Plex and have absolutely no issue when it comes to ports or my firewall blocking the application. It consistently only uses certain ports, so as far as my firewall is concerned, there isn't anything suspicious going on. When PlayOn service is off, the incoming and outgoing logs are empty.

It's still occuring. And every time it does, I check and find a new update.

This is becoming quite annoying. I don't have the fastest internet in the world, so the last thing I want to be doing is downloading 160+ MBs every few days just so that I can use the server software. I don't want the software to automatically try to update (it's failing for whatever reason). Let me know there's an update and let me decide whether to install it so that I can monitor the install. Oy.

I used to have this happen.

Your antivirus is most likely deleting it due to a false positive.  Make sure you make that file exempt from virus removal.
