Auto-redownloading

I remember seeing this idea put forth elsewhere, but if a file doesn't download successfully it'd be convenient if PlayLater kept trying to download the file for x number of tries. An option to maybe put in the settings as well.

An auto re-try would be wonderful. There's nothing worse than coming back to find that a now-expired video failed to record and there's no chance of recording it again.

Yup...that and I found that some of the downloaded videos for me....don't play as they should. There's sometimes lag or a lot of lag, I suppose caused by the connection...even though I'm using FIOS or some bad coding. I don't know what to label this problem as or precisely what's causing it, but if PlayLater knows this is happening maybe it can re-download as well.

I agree - A nice feature to have would be to automatically retry or restart an incomplete recording. Perhaps have it automatically try at various incremental intervals. Say you had 10 items in the queue and the 3rd and 7th failed. It should continue down the list & once it reaches the end it retries the 3rd followed by the 7th.  We wouldn't want to hammer servers, so perhaps a timeout of sorts is in order.  First wait 30 minutes before retrying then 45 up to say 60 minutes and if it fails 3 times, flag the user somehow.  Again, we don't want to slam their servers with requests, but we don't want to spend too much time scrolling through the queue hunting for missed shows.

A potentially better, and quicker, solution might be a view adjustment to show only the failed recordings, then a button to re-queue/restart all?

I've run into situations where the download breaks and I have 60 failed videos in 'stopped' or 'incomplete' status with no resume/retry/restart option.  Instead of clicking delete then finding the missing show manually, it would be great if we could get PlayLater to do this for us.  So clicking a button would perform three actions: Delete the existing video & failed queued item & requeue the video.

I wanted this, so I wrote a collection of scheduled powershell scripts to do them. If you want to check them out, they're here:

    https://bitbucket.org/ParadoxGBB/mediapolling-release

There's a set of scripts that do organization, renaming via TheTVDB, etc --- but there's also an "extension" script that detects and autore-records episodes if it sees one that's partial. It also complains to you if a recording is listed as fails if you watch the output.

We need auto-restart downloads added so that PlayOn can simplye restart downloads when they fail. This seems like an easy feature to add and would be configurable so that it doesn't keep trying forever and clog up the queue. We could create parameters based on the users preference like how many attempts should be made, queue priority, and whatever else you can think of.

Is this feature in the works already?
