Support for Wine/Crossover to enable Linux/OSX

In order to support OS/X and/or Linux, you'd either need to port to that platform or get PlayOn/PlayLater to work under Wine or Crossover (a "supported" version of Wine). Right now, attempting to install PlayOn on Wine or Crossover fails with an unknown error in the installer (I've tried on OS/X, I assume it will fail the same way on LInux). Given that PlayOn at least (I've never used PlayLater) doesn't really seem to have much of a Windows UI dependency, it seems like it should be possible to get it to work.

    PlayOn Support (Chris)

It is not possible to run PlayOn or PlayLater under Wine or Crossover because they lack the dependencies required for PlayOn and PlayLater. We would love to develop a port for OS X or Linux, but that would require building a completely new application. We don't have any plans to take on that project at this time.

VERY unfortunate. As I am SURE your developers are aware, windows is THE LEAST safe OS to run as an always-on media server, and doing so would pretty much require extra security software which would in turn drain the performace of the machine. OS X and Linux are far safer and more easily configurable. Please reconsider this. I really don't know anyone who is knowledgeable enough to run a media server with windows. Your product is definitely the wave of the future, while windows will probably be a thing of the past eventually. Please reconsider. I LOATE MS Windozze. Guess I'll have to run it a a natively-booted windows partition on one of my Apple's, or possibly with VMWARE fusion (after adding significant amounts of RAM). This is the first time in YEARS that I have been cornered into windows-only software with not even a third-party option, support for wine or crossover, or even an unsupported beta version.

re: "We don't have any plans to take on that project at this time."  I think it's time. Is there anything like PlayOn in the world of Linux? I think a Linux version of PlayOn could help both to grow.

Please consider adding support for Linux. I will gladly signup for the paid subscription if this happens. Right now I cannot deploy this solution because I don't have Windows servers, let alone a desktop. Everything is Linux and Android.

    Thanks!

This is pushing the envelope, but how about open sourcing your code so that someone might pick up the project and port it to Linux.  I had to try, I know it won't happen, but I like others run Linux exclusively at my home.  I have ONE Windows machine to run PlayOn, the only application running on the machine and I spend more time maintaining that machine than I do using it!
