Subtitles / Closed Captioning in Netflix

This, I suppose, has little/nothing to do with PlayOn/PlayLater & I don't really consider it an 'issue' that MediaMall needs to address.  Just posting since I didn't see another like it.

I'm aware that Hulu supports closed captioning and can be enabled by default [where possible] via their website.  (win!)  This works fine so that's not the issue.

However, although Netflix also supports closed captioning, it cannot be enabled by default [where possible].  When playing a movie or tv show that has captions/subtitles, it must be manually engaged.

I won't even pretend to understand what sort of nightmare this may present from a development/programmatic perspective.  I figure if PlayLater records at a fixed size, on screen buttons will/should always be in the same place, so perhaps something could be done to manipulate the cursor or simulate clicks to engage captions/subtitles.
Just a thought :)

You can already do this. Netflix supports enabling Closed Captions by default for your account. You just need to play a video in your browser and enable it. Let it play for 5 minutes and Netflix will default to always starting videos with Closed Captions from that point forward.

Hello,  May I ask the *opposite* question?  If I record a TV series from Amazon Instant video with PlayLater (suppose I put episodes 1,2,3, and 4 in the queue, for example) when I go to watch them, one or more of the episodes may be closed captioned -- the others won't.  I had suspected that I had CC enabled by default in Amazon... but if that were the case, then all the episodes would record with captions.  So what's happening, and how can I record *without* the captions?

    Thank you!

That is controlled by Amazon. It may be that subtitles were enabled by default for those episodes because of the language or something else related to the videos. Unfortunately PlayLater cannot turn subtitles on or off for Amazon or tell you if they will be present in a recording. We are unaware of any way to set subtitles to be on or off permanently for Amazon.
