It would be nice to be able to restrict access to specified folders in the Media Library, as a Parental Control feature, if nothing else.

David S. You could wait for a feature to be added to PlayOn, which its developers have not shown any interest in adding, or you could use another, more fully featured, media server in addition to PlayOn.
Emby is great media server with this feature:
