I guess a lifetime is 6 years these days.. Paid for PlayOn lifetime in 2015, and the actual mileage was 6 years. Because we are getting value out of PlayOn will go ahead and buy Home, but it is pretty crappy to stop supporting already paid lifetime customers. PlayOn should have grandfathered in lifetime customers if anything to hold true to the word "lifetime".

Aland Coons I was actually anticipating that support would continue until end-of-life for Windows 10 (only four years away). Instead I found that v.4 won't run on AT ALL on Windows 11 and when I downgraded back to Windows 10 more and more channels continue to fail recordings and the "answer" from technical support is to upgrade to "home" (i.e. v.5) so yeah, it appears the end has come darn near immediately.

David Campeau If PlayOn still has some value, pony up the $ for the year, and evaluate next year.

Aland Coons Not a bad idea. I get three months free for being a (previously known as) "lifetime" customer. I've been using it for years and currently have 7,940 files available to watch (a little over 5 tb) on my hard drive (not counting episodes I just deleted after watching them). After upgrading to Windows 11 the services just refuse to start requiring me to use other mechanisms (like Plex) for playback and (like MCEBuddy) for removing commercials.
Watching shows I've rented or purchased through Amazon or Vudo (or on BluRay) and I can enjoy them in FHD or even 4k but PlayOn Home currently only supports 720p which looks okay most of the time but doesn't take full advantage of the capabilities of the display systems hardware specifications.
-
David Campeau For the 720p issue, my TV up-converts, like a lot of TV's do these days, and it looks decent. Would I rather have 1080p where possible? Yes, but since they make this big deal out of 1080p, I'm like, whatever.

Cap Anson I opened this incident a couple of days ago.

Greetings,
I'm happy to help.
We've been able to reproduce this issue, caused by a major web standards change made by several providers, including, but not limited to, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Netflix, Peacock, Paramount Plus, The Roku Channel and Xfinity starting at the end of November 2021 and extending through the first week of December 2021. Unfortunately, PlayOn Desktop is no longer receiving updates, so you will need to upgrade to PlayOn Home to receive a fix for this issue.
Best regards,
Trevor

my response:
So essentially the "you can still use PlayOn Desktop" is now as useless as our "Lifetime license". No thanks, I'll go elsewhere for recording and probably in higher quality,
-
David Campeau Cap,
Totally understandable.
-
Candice Wiesner Original supporter here too. This is bullshit. The platform hasn't been recording reliably for years and now we can't even cast our own media from before when it actually worked?
-
Cap Anson I'm letting the current Desktop app run, if I don't see much happening I'd just assume eliminate the clutter and move on from there. Whatever I can't get from a streaming subscription I still have cable and a DVR and I can scrape from DVR to MP4 at about the same quality as I get from PlayOn. I have much more content than I'll ever likely watch so not wasting more money on this. Good luck to all. I'm just happy I outlived a "lifetime" subscription!!!! :-)
